Dear CERT BPC Team Members:

Four days 'til takeoff! 

Pack Lightly!

If you are riding to the breakpoint in a team van, space in the van will be very limited. Remember to pack lightly and compactly!  It is a good idea to coordinate with your fellow CERT BPC team members to figure out who is bringing what. (For example, you may want to pack 1 ice chest and 1 wooden mallet for the entire team.)  If you think you need to bring something for the group please let me know and I will let you know if we have it covered or not.  Those of you coming to the meeting tomorrow night can bring it up then as well. 

Friday Rally Point

            We will rally at 5:00 pm on Friday April 28, 2017 at the Galveston County Office of Emergency Management, 1353 Fm 646 Rd W Ste 201, Dickinson, TX 77539.  Our plan is to load the vans and leave for the hotel, Wyndham Houston West Energy Corridor, 14703 Park Row, Houston, TX 77079 no later than 6:00 pm.  Depending on traffic, it is almost an hour to get there.  Once we get checked in, we can drop our gear and grab some dinner.  It won't be a late night since it will be an early morning departure from the hotel to Breakpoint 3, Saturday morning.

Saturday Rally Point

We will rally at 4:30 am on Saturday April 16, 2016 in the hotel lobby, load the vans and grab a quick breakfast at the Waffle House across the street from the hotel.

It is critical that we depart no later than 5:15 am so that we have enough time to set up the breakpoint entrance and exit before the cyclists arrive. If you are running late or are not going to make the event please call me ASAP at 409-454-6793 so we are not waiting on you.

Overnight Accommodations at Pine Cove

All 2 day CERTs BPC teams will be staying overnight at the Pine Cove Campground between Columbus and La Grange. There will be women-only and men-only rooms reserved for us. Room assignments will be posted on the cabin doors. Accommodations are nothing fancy, but very adequate. Bunk beds, hot showers, private bathroom stalls, etc. This is not a hotel! Remember to bring your own towel, soap, shower shoes, and bedding. ("Think camp"!).

 A few house rules...

*No smoking inside the rooms

*No alcohol is allowed on the premises

*No Firearms – Even if you a concealed carry or open carry permit

 

Additional Reminders...

*Bring your (personal) cell phone charger

*Bring a flashlight (It will be dark in the morning!)

 

Dinner on Saturday & Breakfast on Sunday

Dinner on Saturday night and breakfast on Sunday morning will be served at the Knights of Columbus in La Grange. Maps to Pine Cove and Pine Cove-to-Knights of Columbus are attached.

You are "on your own" for lunch on Saturday and Sunday. You are welcome to eat the snack foods provided to cyclists at the breakpoints. However, you may want to bring extra snacks.

Optional Text Message Alerts

An optional text messaging system is available. The system will allow those that have opted in to receive emergency text messages from MS headquarters on your personal cell phone. Any text message you receive through this system is 1-way, i.e. from Event Headquarters to your cell phone. Please note that you will be responsible for all related charges. To opt in, simply text the word: CERT to 68686. If done correctly, you should receive an acknowledgement within an hour.

Dear CERT Breakpoint Controller (BPC) Team Member,

This is the 1st of 3 communications which you will receive regarding the volunteer duties and general information about the weekend events.

I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I am your CERT BPC Team Leader for the upcoming 2017 BP MS150 Bike Ride - Saturday, April 29 - Sunday, April 30. Our CERT BPC Team will be volunteering at breakpoint #3 on Saturday and breakpoint #2A on Sunday. 

Our team members and their contact information are listed in the attached CERT BPC Team Roster.

Please note that every attempt to keep CERT Team members and friends together has been made. However, breakpoint assignments may change at any time, based on the coverage needs of the breakpoints. 

Our role as Breakpoint Controllers is to keep cyclists moving into the breakpoint and to direct them to lay their bikes down in the bike laydown area...so as not to clog up the entrance to the breakpoint. All CERTs are to be positioned inside the entrance to the breakpoint...not in the street. Please review the attached Breakpoint Controller Job Description.

Please note that Breakpoint 2 and 3 on Sunday through the optional Park route have been closed this year due to hazardous road conditions. Teams working those breakpoints have been re-assigned as a team to work the Sunday Breakpoint indicated above.
